A Guide To Viognier Wine

Viognier is a white grape that is used to create many tables’ wines of our time, in fact, it is the only permitted grape in the production of the French Condrieu wine. The main regions where this is grown are France, North and South America and Australia as they have shown to have the best climates and conditions to successfully grow this specific grape. It dates all the back to 281 AD when the Roman emperor was aid to have brought the vines to Rhone himself.

Viognier can be a very difficult grape to grow as it can be subject to mildew and needs to be picked at the right time or you will not get the full potential from this grape in the final result. If you pick it too late the wine will be oily and will lack flavour whereas if you pick it early it will taste undeveloped and bland. You can tell when it is ready to be picked as it will develop deep yellow in colour so you have to constantly monitor them to get the best results. Viognier grapes that are picked when they are ripe will help make the wine much stronger and have a unique flavour which is popular amongst many people.
