A Guide To English & Welsh Wine
The first disadvantage for all British wine makers is the climate, having a very temperamental cold weather it can be hard for people to successful keep the vineyards alive and healthy but has been helped by the warmer summers the United Kingdom is beginning to see. Global warming is believed to have an increase in the amount of wine that the United Kingdom will be able to manufacture in the future as the climate will be more suitable for this kind of thing.
Wine which is produced and exported from the United Kingdom could be from one of two places, England or Wales depending on the origin of the grape and production. Research has shown that England has just fewer than 360 active vineyards manufacturing wine on a daily basis. Surrey holds the record for the largest vineyard in the United Kingdom with Denbies Vineyard having 265 acres of land. In the same respect Wales has 17 active vineyards listed but you have to take the size into consideration as Wales is much smaller than England.
The most common grape used in the United Kingdom is the Seyval Blanc, mainly due to this being the most suitable with the cold and wet climate.
