The History of Wine
Wine has changed over the years and has been a part of peoples lives for thousands of years. Many things have influenced the outcome of the variations of wine such as lifestyle, taste, civilisation to name a few. In the early days, wine was often grown by wineries and consumed locally. But as time has moved on people saw the profitable aspect of the drink and began to export it to countries that didn’t have the right climate, equipment or knowledge to grow vines.
Many different grapes have been produced, so people can use the variations to determine the end result of a wine, but some factors cannot be decided. The climate of a vineyard plays a huge role in the final result of a grape crop, changing the colour, size, texture and taste.
In Roman times wine was integrated into many people’s diet. It began to be a profitable business which helped many countries economy, especially in the days when the number of countries growing vines was far less. It was said that the Romans had the biggest impact on the winemaking industry as they introduced new and improved methods to make it easier and more cost effective.
Another era that was very important for wine was during Medieval Europe. This is when the consumption of wine was very common no matter what social class you were. It also became very popular to have wine with meals as they can often compensated for the bland taste of food at the time.
Wine in today’s world is a popular and still very profitable business, in fact not much has changed since Roman times. The only big difference is the changes in technology, making it much easier and more cost effective to produce.
